A year ago I started rehearsing/creating the project Terra dei Fuochi/ Land of Fires. Two years ago I started working on the concept. Thanks to @lamamaetc the show has been produced and had its world premiere in nyc. It isn’t enough, this is a dance, documentary theater performance aimed to share the story of the suffering mothers who lost their kids to cancer in my home region in Italy. Cancer triggered by the toxic waste that has been buried or just deoppes there and burned daily. Since I started the project things didn’t get better, it is worse than ever. I am calling it as it is: a genocide. I am eager to bring the show everywhere in the world. Alcune mamme della Terra dei Fuochi, insieme a padre Maurizio Patriciello, hanno pubblicato un libro, MADRE TERRA, FRATELLO FUOCO, edito da Edizioni San Paolo, parte del ricavato sarà devoluto a due associazioni, Noi Genitori di Tutti e Vittime Terra dei Veleni. “Madre Terra Fratello Fuoco”, è il loro modo per dire “non vi dimenticate di noi”.

«Per me uscire fuori da me stessa, rivivere la sofferenza nel raccontare, è diventata una missione». Questo volume è un documento di denuncia e di coraggio contro sfruttatori e inquinatori, ma anche un atto di amore profondo per una terra e la sua gente.
Raccoglie le storie commuoventi di una decina di “mamme della Terra dei fuochi” che si sono viste portar via i loro cari, vittime dell’inquinamento di una zona divenuta il simbolo italiano del degrado e della corruzione.
La Terra dei fuochi era «al tempo dei papiri la Campania felix, in quello di Twitter e Facebook è la pattumiera d’Italia», ha scritto don Patriciello. «Una discarica dove ogni anno vengono avvistati migliaia di roghi di rifiuti, che inceneriscono scorie industriali, sprigionano veleni, ammorbano l’aria e uccidono la vita nei campi». La lotta di don Patriciello inizia la notte dell’8 giugno 2012, quando il prete si sveglia assalito da una puzza insopportabile. Per lui è una nuova missione: su Facebook raccoglie la protesta della gente che si è vista avvelenare la campagna. Da allora il sacerdote ha smosso le coscienze della gente, interpellando politici, denunciando i corrotti, promuovendo oceaniche marce di protesta e facendo aprire gli occhi all’opinione pubblica italiana su un dramma troppo a lungo sommerso. Questo libro – che si apre con una prefazione di Giuseppe Fiorello, l’attore che recentemente ha impersonato in Tv il giornalista Roberto Mancini, autore delle prime denunce – testimonia che nella sua lotta padre Maurizio non è più solo.

L’AUTORE – Dopo anni di lontananza dalla Chiesa cattolica, Maurizio Patriciello si riavvicina alla fede grazie all’incontro con un frate francescano. Lasciato il lavoro di paramedico in ospedale, entra in seminario e diventa prete nel 1989. Oggi è parroco al quartiere Parco Verde in Caivano, dove combatte con forza per la rinascita della sua terra, avvelenata dai rifiuti industriali interrati in modo criminale nelle campagne.
